LUNCHES & SNACKS

Cultural Learning Through Food

To support our children’s energy and well-being, Tsumiki Preschool provides nutritious snacks and lunches that reflect our commitment to healthy eating and cultural education.

Our menu is thoughtfully created to help teach children about cultural and traditional food of Japan.

Tsumiki Preschool is proud to serve meals that are nutritious, filling, and culturally meaningful—helping every child grow, learn, and enjoy food together each day. Meals often include classic staples such as おにぎり  (onigiri), 味噌汁  (miso soup), and seasonal dishes tied to Japanese holidays and celebrations. Through tasting and learning about these foods, children build connections to the Japanese language and culture in an engaging, daily context.

This approach helps children broaden their palates, appreciate different cuisines, and recognize the value of sharing meals from multiple cultures.

Morning Snack

Every morning, all children are served a snack consisting of fruits, crackers, or other filling options designed to tide them over until lunchtime. These snacks are chosen for their nutritional value and ability to keep children energized and focused during the busy morning schedule.

Lunch Program

Hot lunches are provided for all children four days a week. All school lunches are made from scratch in our kitchen and served hot and fresh. The menu features Japanese fusion food with the occasional western influence, ensuring children experience a broad and balanced diet. Examples of typical lunch dishes may include rice, grilled fish, teriyaki chicken meatballs, steamed vegetables, miso soup, and fruit, as well as occasional western favorites like mild curry and pasta. Every meal is made with attention to nutrition and taste, with the goal of offering lunches that are not only filling but genuinely enjoyed by our children.

Afternoon Snack

For students in the full-day program, a hearty afternoon snack is provided. Options include toast, bread, fruit, and おにぎり  (onigiri rice balls), which are more filling than the morning snack and perfect for keeping energy up through the day.
