Our Classes
We offer three age-appropriate classes, each designed to meet children where they are developmentally and guide them toward kindergarten readiness:
Iruka Class (Ages 4-5)
The Iruka Class focuses on more complex learning to prepare children for elementary school. Children learn to read simple picture books independently, listen to and retell stories, and begin writing hiragana letters. Math instruction focuses on grouping objects in sets of five and understanding how to compose the number five. Children engage in games with multiple rules requiring cooperation and complete multistep origami projects. Leadership and responsibility are introduced through daily teacher helper roles with tasks to support peers and teachers.
Shirokuma Class (Ages 3-4)
Building on skills acquired in the Penguin Class, the Shirokuma Class enhances concentration by teaching children to listen and perform three-step tasks. Children develop understanding of longer stories, expand their vocabulary, and begin developing hiragana reading skills. Math skills focus on numbers 1-10 and one-to-one correspondence. Art projects become more sophisticated, including origami and extensive scissor work. Children also learn to follow rules for using tools and games played with peers.
Penguin Class (Ages 2-3)
The Penguin Class focuses on foundational skills for our youngest learners. Children learn to listen to teacher instructions, build Japanese vocabulary, follow simple rules and routines, and develop proper eating manners. This class introduces scissor use, utensil use, and promotes independence in self-help tasks. Toilet training is also a key focus during this stage.
